Here is our Happy Independence Day wish to all of you!
Oh, and this video was not taken in Strasburg, but was taken on the way home from Jackson Lake today…
Hope you are all having an awesome 4th!
Celebrating Strasburg, Colorado, a small, friendly town in the plains east of Denver...

Really sorry about the silence on the site…we are really still here. Life has been busy, and I’ve gotta admit that it is so easy to post on Facebook we put a ton ‘o stuff there…so please be sure to like our Facebook page. However, I will get better at sticking stuff up here too. For instance…
You may want to check out our new photo galleries on SmugMug? It isn’t terribly curated right now, but as we go forward we’ll get some of our best pictures up there…and they will focus on Strasburg (although Limon dragonfly and Denver International Airport pictures in this post are kind ‘a cool, aren’t they?)
Hope everyone is having a great start to their summer!
I think I’ve mentioned it here before that I am a Church of Christ minister. However, I am a volunteer one, and as such my breadwinning job (which I thank God for) can take varying degrees of my time.
And let’s just say a couple weeks before Christmas, right through now, it has been taking 100%+.
However, this past week was less so…and finally I caught up my sermon notes. (I had been getting the audio up, but not the notes.) Please check out my last for talks…or even better…
Consider visiting us in person at the Strasburg Church of Christ.
P.S. I also hope that now that we seem over the hump I’ll be posting more here. My silence means nothing but a lack of time. I love our town. Strasburg still rocks!
This Strasburg Rocks! contributor couldn’t be happier to be spending another year in such a tremendous town.
Made tremendous by everyone else who lives here and lives in the surrounding towns.
Tremendous because of you.
Regardless of how 2016 was for you and yours, I pray that 2017 is your best year other. Thank you for being our neighbor!
Faith, hope, and love remain. The greatest of these is love.
Let’s love.
It’s probably not going to amount to much, but we do have our first snow of the new 2016-2017 winter season!:
A photo not good enough? How about a quick video? 🙂
And…you have to admit that with snow…well…it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…so you can listen here for the best Christmas music on the planet (year-round):
If you are out in it, please drive carefully…let’s not let the first snow of the season mean you are in your first crash of the season…
Before I start composing my sermon for tomorrow, I wanted to post two videos. First, of all things, this first one may be our most seen post on Facebook (792 impressions and 369 views):
(The view count I mentioned above is from Facebook, not YouTube.)
The second video is an awesome display of patriotism and appreciation for our military by KISS. Ignore the “shot at Colin Kaepernick” stuff…that is a mischaracterization:
Okay, now to convert all my research into a digestible sermon…while listening to…you guessed it…KISS! 🙂
P.S. Here is the original Facebook post that is so popular:Continue Reading
I just posted this picture on the Strasburg Rocks! Facebook Page with the label, “Home sweet home”:
And that it is. We had an awesome 24 hour trip to and from Goodland, Kansas, but nothing beats where we live on the high plains!
Perhaps my favorite find in Goodland was this:
Augie and I love checking out weather radars, and that’s the one we leverage out of Goodland now-and-then. (By the way, the best weather radar program for your iPhone is RadarScope.)
Although almost all of these pictures will show up in the Facebook embeds I post after, here are a few of the photos I grabbed (mainly on my iPhone 6S Plus):Continue Reading
Previously, we posted a video of the historic (and awesome!) Kit Carson County Carousel filmed from the outside (which begins with an informative history). This time (from yesterday) we take you on the inside and you get to ride it with me, your humble Strasburg Rocks! correspondent.
Today is its last day for 2016 (although I’ve heard rumor of a Christmas event), it’s not too far from Strasburg, and it’s only 25 cents…so…why not?…celebrate Labor Day with a ride…or two…or three… 🙂
(We plan on going for another ride when we travel back from Kansas today…)
Happy Labor Day folks!
After the most awesome of birthday road trips for Augie, we decided that after church today we’d head to Goodland Kansas again.
This time we were a bit less ambitious and almost drove straight through…although we did stop for a treat at the I-70 Diner in Flagler, Colorado…
…and rode the Kit Carson County Carousel in Burlington, Colorado. (Video of that to follow in another post. It is taking a while to upload it to YouTube via the hotel Internet.)
But, we did finally make it to Kansas…
..and now are enjoying a calm night at the Holiday Inn Express…
Happy Labor Day and good night to all of you!
I’m on day two of a six day vacation…although “vacation” doesn’t seem to equal “slow down” for me. 🙂
A bit earlier this afternoon I came back from a bicycle ride to and from Bennett (okay, I’ll admit it, I went to McDonald’s!)…and on the way snapped these photos of my favorite spot during that ride (which, I assume, is in Bennett):
Continuing to where I had to make a sharp left to stay on Route 36, I really liked these clouds:Continue Reading
Rule #1: Don’t use the volume button on an iPhone 6S Plus with a protective Otter case to take selfies…it will shake it. 🙂
Rule #2: Don’t be limited by your cellular provider! Go with T-Mobile ONE and T-Mobile ONE Plus and get unlimited everything! Even tethering and mobile hotspots!
A big thanks to Moin at the T-Mobile in Southlands Mall for getting us set up!
P.S. Yes, I love T-Mobile ever since we first signed up with them earlier this year. 🙂 T-Mobile ONE is just another example of the many things that set them apart from the competition.
The sole purpose of Strasburg Rocks! is to celebrate Strasburg, Colorado, a small, friendly town in the plains east of Denver. It does not exist to make money. However, should Strasburg Rocks! produce any net income, it will be donated back to the Strasburg community.
