Beyond the people, one of the first things I fell in love with in Strasburg was its water tower. Whenever I am returning, it is a welcome reminder that I am on my way back to the home God gave us. This post is dedicated to that water tower via some photos I took on a quick bicycle ride this evening…and you get a couple of bonus pictures. 🙂
Launching Off the Weekend
On the way to our weekly dad-son-only breakfast, we had a letter to drop off at the Strasburg Post Office…which just happens to be across the street from the local hardware store (Western Hardware). Last weekend we used up all our Estes rocket engines on Father’s Day, so it made sense to grab some more by walking over to that great establishment. However, we didn’t escape without an additional purchase. 🙂
And the first launch was successful!:
What are you doing this weekend? How has yours started off?
Comanche Crossing Museum
Yesterday we were able to quickly visit a true gem available here in Strasburg: Comanche Crossing Museum. In the future I hope to do a more thorough review of the place…below is just a small taste of what’s available there. (It is especially lacking when it comes to the incredible collection of items that are available inside the various buildings.)
Short version: Comanche Crossing Museum gets 5 bulls and a hearty Strasburg Rocks! Recommended. Neat place. Great people (volunteers).

Mini Max
After church tomorrow I’ve got quite a bit of “work work” queued…so I snuck some family and hobby time in today. Part of the results:
The Mini Max is a classic Estes rocket (as is the larger original, Der Red Max)…and I will definitely take enough time off on Father’s Day so astronaut Augie can launch it…
P.S. This is the first “complete build” rocket I’ve done since Augie and I started this hobby. Everything was white (with the exception of the naturally-colored balsa fins)…and nothing snapped together or was otherwise simple. Sanding. Gluing. Rounding. Air brushing (first time).
Having said that, Estes still says it was only a skill level 1. 🙂
On Second Thought, Maybe We Won’t Be Taking the Dogs for a Walk…
51 (“I’m Okay”)
As my day winds down and Augie, snuggling beside me, sings, “I’m okay”…I am reminded just how blessed I have been during my 51 years.
And just how blessed I still am.
On this birthday, I am not as thoughtful as some. 2015 has provided some fairly high levels of stress, and that continues in some areas. A contributor to the stress is my lack of self-confidence…I hate to disappoint (and mentally it is easy for me to assume I have). That’s why, heading to and from this year’s American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, a song I don’t remember ever hearing before from Styx was especially heartening. Just happens to be the song Augie was just singing, “I’m Okay.” 🙂Continue Reading
Beauty After Tragedy
After just posting a depressing local story, I wanted to share a photo I snapped soon after picking up bug repellent from the local hardware store:
It was even more beautiful in person. I love all the different clouds (and effects with clouds) we get here in the Denver area.Continue Reading
“Man shot, killed after car chase on I-70 near Strasburg”
Heading back from today’s American Heart Association Heart Walk in Denver, I happened upon the largest number of police vehicles in one place I’ve ever seen. This is how it was captured by my Cobra dashcam:
I assumed that it meant something horrible had happened, and sure enough:
“Man shot, killed after car chase on I-70 near Strasburg”
A shorter story is also available here:
“Police say 1 dead after morning car chase near Strasburg”
Prayers for the family of the man and the police and other first responders involved.
P.S. Here is a small, grainier gif version of the video:Continue Reading
Skies and Sprinklers
As our weekend wrapped up, we were treated to this beautiful combination of sundown, clouds, and the moon…
Oh, that and our sprinklers turned on for the first time this evening and Augie…Continue Reading
Ground Control to Major Tom
Astronaut Augie had his first launch on Memorial Day. Sadly, due to choosing an over-ambitious vehicle (it could fly as much as 1,100 feet) and a badly placed sun, we do not know where it landed… 🙂
However, as rocket scientists Augie and I have learned from our mistakes and next time our rocket will be limited to 350 feet…Continue Reading
Here Come the Birds (Hopefully)
Today, after breakfast, Augie and I got a few bird feeders, and with mom (who already had one for hummingbirds) we made our backyard more friendly to the winged creatures:
Augie chose the barn. 🙂
Hope to see lots of hungry birds soon!
Memorial Day Weekend (So Far) in Pictures
How is your Memorial Day weekend going. For a quick idea of what ours has been like, here is our weekend (so far) in pictures…
First, Friday night dinner at a great pizza place…
Father/son breakfast at The Patio Cafe…
The Pizza Shop
I could probably live off pizza…well, if I was willing to be 500 pounds. 🙂
Not only could I live off pizza, I’ve worked for a pizza restaurant (delivery) and a good friend of mine back in New Hampshire owns a pizzeria. I know good pizza and I know bad pizza…
And The Pizza Shop has great pizza!
What makes it more incredible that I can say that is I am more of a thick crust type (“pan pizza”) and The Pizza Shop pizzas have a thin crust…but…well…mmm… 🙂
Who is this Leah?
As a professional dog trainer and canine behavior therapist, I have been told I am a rarity in my field. I am one that has a love for both dogs (all critters really) and people. Ron, who was my high school sweetheart and now husband of 30 years, and I discovered the I 70 corridor during our quest for quieter, simpler living in our empty nesting years. I love this community and am happy to serve it. I have made so many great friends and acquaintances. For an added bonus, the commute is always a quiet scenic drive, or sometimes a stroll in a beautiful country atmosphere.Continue Reading
